Google PageRank Widget

I wrote my first Widget today! This cool little Widget for finds the Google Page Rank for any URL by calculating the checksum and requesting the PR from Google’s servers. Just type the URL you want to check and hit Enter!

UPDATE I: This is so cool. Google PageRank is now listed on Appel’s Dashboard Downloads.

UPDATE II: Updated the file to 1.0.2. This sub-version fixed the ‘Done’ button problem. It also has a smaller footprint. You should download again (remove it first from ~/Library/Widgets)...

“Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is required. If you’re using Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget’s icon in the Widget Bar to open it. If you’re using a browser other than Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, unarchive it and place it in /Library/Widgets/ in your home folder. show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget’s icon in the Widget Bar to open it.

Also, many errors are logged for the widget which give a reference to businessweek.com that I don’t understand. #

Just FYI, your widget is NOT showing the updated page rank values, which Google re-calculated last month; I tested it for my site, which the Google toolbar shows as a 6, but your widget shows as a 5.

I’m getting errors again. I use it to check CharityCellphones,a website where you can donate cellphones to charity however it seems to be malfunctioning. It’s returning results that don’t fit in the green portal window. It looks like a very large “No” to the first power (superscripted 1). Anyone know how to fix it?

I definately love this one. I use it regularly, but recently I have the problem that I get the same results for every single website I´m typing in. Seems, I need to kill some data or restart the whole dashboard some way.

Yes, same here. All page rank requests return the same number as the first one. In my case 3. This includes Google.com.
I presume there needs to be a cache clearing.

Thank you for a very useful widget. I’ve been using this for some time now with great results. Recently however I noticed that it will give me the correct PR for the first site, but all subsequent sites entered default to the first site’s PR. I run the newest version of 10.4 and the widget so not sure what it could be and have even tried reinstalling the widget. Thanks.
