Microsoft had their 100,000,000 download of IE7 recently. Despite this impressive number only 3 months after releasing IE7, there no reason for the guys over at Redmond to celebrate just yet… Almost everyone who downloaded the IE7 did so (wait for it) automatically via Windows Update. What a suprise!
The latest stats from the browser war front indicates that MS is in the lead with 79.6% market share with both IE6 and IE7 (a decrease from 80.6%), FireFox is up (again) from 13.5% to 14%, and Safari is up, too, to 4.2% market share.
Now for the magic (drumroll please…):
Most (lazy) web designers develop for IE because they think that IE represent 80% of the market. Because of that, people who use other browsers stop visiting these website. The result is that 80% of the users who do visit the website actually use IE. Magic!
